This image was captured in 2017 at Betoota Racetrack.
Betoota has a population of 0 and a once a year meeting. It’s as pretty much remote a race meeting as you can get.
The last race at Betoota is near 5pm and the sun starts to set low in the horizon. For this image, I ventured to the home turn, positioned a remote camera under the running rail and exposed for a silhouette effect, knowing that the home turn would provide the most action and the most dust.
The resulting image shows the sun illuminating the dust as the horses make their way down the stretch to the finish line.
